Holy Communion – requirements for reception

Parish or school Mass announcement regarding Holy Communion – Parish priests must ensure adequate preparation and reverent reception of Holy Communion, while Catholic schools and parishes provide the catechesis and pastoral support necessary for that to happen. Those who attend Mass regularly, or at weddings and funeral can also benefit from ongoing reminders – former catechesis may have been weak or forgotten.

Requirements for Reception of Holy Communion

“Catholics who are properly prepared and disposed may receive Holy Communion. Those who have not yet made their First Communion, or who are conscious of having committed a mortal sin since their last confession, should not receive Holy Communion until they have received sacramental absolution. Those who are not Catholic, or who are not prepared or disposed to receive, are invited to remain in their place or to come forward with their arms crossed, according to the local parish practice.”
