What is the “40 Hours Devotion”?
The 40 Hours Devotion is a continuous prayer made before the Blessed Sacrament in solemn exposition. With a focus on the Holy Eucharist, this devotion provides a wonderful opportunity for the spiritual growth of each person and the parish as a whole. For those who would like to commit to a specific time slot, sign-up sheets are available in the church foyer.
Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist. Adoration is the word we use when the priest places the Eucharist on the Altar for us to be able to come and adore. The host is placed in a special container called the “Monstrance”. Jesus will be there for 40 hours straight for Eucharistic adoration, even all through the night.
HOW do I “adore”?
Adoration means coming to Church and sitting or kneeling in the presence of God. It usually takes place in silence. It is the chance to “adore” (to gaze upon our good God), to reflect, to thank God and praise Him, and to share with Him our concerns, joys, and sorrows… It is a beautiful moment.
WHAT will I do there?
We sign up for a 1-hour slot. The most important thing is to be there; to open your heart to God; to let Jesus touch your heart. You can also read a bit of the bible, or pray the Rosary, or write down what is on your heart.
40 Hours Devotion around the diocese

Bishop McGrattan has introduced the practice of the 40 Hours Devotion into the Diocese of Calgary. The special intention of this diocese’s 40 Hours Devotion is vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life. Their goal is for all parishes in this diocese to take turns holding the Devotion, so that each week of the year, at least one parish will be holding 40 Hours of Eucharistic Adoration. Some parishes currently have hardly any adoration, so hopefully more will expand regular adoration.
