Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

We are gathered here today to reflect on an event that has shaken the heart of faith; an event that is a tangible sign of the living and pulsating Presence of our Lord Jesus Christ among us. I invite you to open your hearts to let the Holy Spirit guide us in this reflection because what I will speak to you about today is a sign that cannot leave us indifferent, a sign that call calls each of us to a deeper more vibrant and more ardent faith.

We are witnesses to extraordinary times in which even amidst difficulties, confusion and suffering, God never ceases to manifest Himself in surprising ways and when we least expect it. When our hearts are bowed in prayer something wonderful can happen something that goes beyond our human understanding.

Brothers and sisters this is the time of grace the time when God Himself reminds us of his living and Real Presence among us. Today I want to share with you a testimony from Colombia; a Eucharistic miracle that invites us to contemplate the greatness of the mystery of the Holy Eucharist.

Why are Eucharistic Miracles so important for us Christians? Because they remind us of a fundamental truth that Jesus Christ is truly present in the Eucharist. It is not just a simple symbol, but the true presence of Christ’s Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity under the species of bread and wine.

This is a mystery of love that is renewed every time we participate in the Holy Mass, but one that we often forget in the routine of our daily lives. Eucharistic Miracles are signs that God gives us to awaken our faith to remind us that we are not alone, that He is always with us. Every time a Eucharistic Miracle occurs, it is as if Heaven opens for a moment to show us the reality hidden from human eyes – the living presence of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.

These Miracles are an invitation to renew our faith, to rediscover the value of the Holy Eucharist; to never take this immense gift for granted and now brothers and sisters let me tell you what recently happened in Bogotá, Colombia – an extraordinary event that deeply moved the community of the faithful and resonated around the world.

On August 10th, 2024, at the Parish of San Joaquín, located in the neighbourhood of Las Ferias in Bogotá, a group of about 300 of the faithful had gathered for a prayer vigil. The purpose of the vigil was to invoke peace for Colombia and Venezuela, two nations troubled by internal tensions and conflicts that threatened to escalate into civil war.

During this prayer vigil something happened that no one could have predicted. The Blessed Sacrament had been exposed for adoration and the faithful along with the priest were gathered in silent prayer. It was at that moment while all eyes were fixed on the monstrance that the Miracle occurred. The consecrated Host placed in the monstrance visibly began to pulsate. This movement was clear not only to the priest, but also to all present. The Host, the Body of Christ, seemed to beat like a living heart. This phenomenon lasted for about twenty minutes, during which, emotion overtook everyone present. Tears of joy and awe streamed down the faces of the faithful, while some of them recorded the event with their phones, eager to share with the world what was happening before their unbelieving eyes.

The priest, Father Juvel Zuluaga Agustino, who was leading the prayer vigil, could not hold back his tears. In the parish’s official statement, he expressed the profound significance that this miracle has for the faith of believers:

This day of prayer for Venezuela and Colombia has been received as a sign of your love and closeness to these two nations and to the world. May this manifestation lead us to value more this immense gift from Heaven which is the Holy Eucharist and may it serve to reaffirm our faith and continue to make reparation brothers and sisters. This is a message that we cannot ignore in a time when the world seems to be drifting further away from God. In an era marked by wars, divisions and the loss of values, God manifests Himself to us through these extraordinary signs. We cannot remain indifferent in the face of such a miracle. It is an invitation to reflect on our faith, to ask ourselves how deeply we believe in the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist and to renew our commitment to live as authentic witnesses of the Gospel.

Father Zuluaga, with words full of fervour reminds us that our lives must be consumed like a candle as apostles of the Holy Eucharist and reparation made for the many offenses, sacrileges and indifferences with which God is daily offended. This Eucharistic miracle is not only a sign of Christ’s Presence among us but also a call to holiness – an invitation to live a life of reparation and love for Jesus, present in the Eucharist.

We must never forget dear brothers and sisters that Jesus Christ is truly present in the Eucharist. He is not an abstract idea, nor a mere memory of the past, but a living, tangible presence that is renewed everyday on the Altar. Eucharistic miracles like the one that occurred in Bogotá are a divine sign of this truth. They are extraordinary events that help us to better understand the mystery of God’s love for us throughout history.

The Church has recognized many Eucharistic miracles, events where the consecrated Host has manifested visible signs of Christ’s presence. These miracles have occurred at different times and places, but they all have a single purpose to strengthen our faith and remind us that Jesus is truly present in every Eucharist from the ancient Miracle of Lanciano in Italy where the host visibly turned into human flesh and blood, to recent events like the one in Bogotá.

These signs speak to us of the same reality: Jesus Is with us now and forever in the Sacrament of the Altar. They are not fables or legends; but living testimonies of the divine presence manifested among us.

My dear ones, the Eucharistic Miracle of Bogotá is a gift – a sign of hope in times of trial. It is a call to return with all our hearts to God; to recognize His Presence in the Eucharist and to live as true disciples of Christ. Let us allow ourselves to be touched by this sign open our hearts to the grace that God offers us and let our lives become a living testimony of His Presence among us. Let us always remember the words of Jesus – “Behold I am with you always until the end of the age.”

May this Eucharistic Miracle be for us a beacon that illuminates our path, that guides us toward a deeper faith and a greater love for our Lord Jesus Christ, present and alive in the Eucharist.

“In the Saint Joachim Barrio Church Las Ferias in the Colombian capital Bogotá, over 300 Catholics gathered for a day of prayer for Venezuela and Colombia, during which a Eucharistic adoration was also held. The video shows the priest Juvel Zuluaga Agustino holding the monstrance and unable to take his eyes off the subtle pulsing of the Blessed Sacrament. The priest appears completely overwhelmed and moved to his existential depths, fighting back tears. ‘Infocvaticana”, a Spanish-language Catholic news portal, writes of a “Eucharistic miracle” – without using a question mark.
